FURTHER to GB Butler’s letter “Rubbish disposal” (HAS, Oct 2) about waste being transported from Liverpool by rail, I see no problem with that.

But why is the waste from Newcastle being sent down the A19 to the Haverton Hill incinerator when there is a railway line from Newcastle to the plant’s front door?

The emissions from these wagons must be quite high, every day there are problems with traffic on this road, so let’s have some common sense.
