SEEING your photos of Darlington in 1965 (Echo, Sept 4) reminded me of the day I went to Darlington on my bike and fastened it to the railings with a bit of Charlie Band.
For some reason, I got the bus home and forgot about my bike. At night, I was watching Coronation Street and it suddenly hit me that I hadn’t got my bike, so my husband gave me a lift to Woolworths and my bike was still there, fastened with Charlie Band. Everyone in those days was honest and never took anything that didn’t belong to them.
I wonder how many folk nowadays know what Charlie Band is – only country folk.
