DULCIE FARMER (HAS, Sept 23) wrote about the callous treatment of cats. I’m sat here amazed at her letter.

Ms Farmer says: “We love our cats as much as dog owners love their dogs.”

Really? How does that statement chime with her next observation that “it’s getting to the stage where we are frightened to let our pets out”. Why must cat owners allow their pets to roam without exerting any control?

She then has the audacity to complain when something bad happens to a pet she professes to love.

This outrageous behaviour is, I’m afraid, typical of cat owners who take zero responsibility for their pets when they are out of the home.

My neighbour is a proud gardener. Her flower beds and vegetable patches have been literally dug up and poisoned by cat poo and wee. If she takes it out on the poor animals who is to blame, the cat owner or the exasperated gardener?
