IT was great to see my favourite vehicle in Saturday’s Northern Echo (Sept 19) when John Rennison Vayro showed a photo of an immaculate Snowberry White Morris 1000 Traveller.

I was bought a brand new Almond Green Morris 1000 Traveller in 1962 which was almost an 1100cc engine in those days.

I was aged 19 and had not passed my test but I passed with flying colours at 9am rush hour in Durham City in my Morris.

I had this green Morris for 11 years until it failed its MOT twice so I scrapped it.

I think we had six Travellers in all and had two stolen from outside our house with one being returned by the police.

My wife and I each had a Him and Hers Morris 1000. They did have their faults with deteriorating woodwork and chassis rotting away plus the dreaded stub axle springing open, thankfully at low speeds.

John talks of a British Racing Green Morris Traveller but mine was Almond Green with the Forestry Commission producing a Forest Green version. We really did love our Moggy 1000s.
