THE housing estate at Low Coniscliffe, Darlington, will soon be completed. That is the housing estate of four, five and six bedrooms housing estate, not a housing estate of much-needed affordable houses. Landscaping is even now underway. Given that trees disappeared during excavation, I had hoped for some planting of native trees that would support wildlife, birds, that kind of thing.
Instead we have large ornamental palm trees. No birds will nest or sing there. To my jaundiced eye it looks like Center Parcs meets Holiday Inn.
If that’s the look they wanted, they got it.
Everywhere you look, developers are swallowing up land. Welcome to Palm Springs.
Alexandra Bailey, Darlington.
