WHEN I heard of this dreadful illness, coronavirus, the name recalled a childhood memory for me.
As a child I was blessed with many aunts and uncles. One particular uncle, named Ernie West, was the leader (conductor) of the Corona Jazz Band, being very musically gifted, he was a delight to have around.
I would love to hear from anyone who might remember his band playing in the 40s and 50s, and also maybe where the name came from, at that time.
I believe he lived in George Street, near the South Park.
