I USE memories and a little imagination to while away the time in lockdown.
My husband and I were sitting in the garden, with our eyes closed, enjoying the sun.
I said “I am in the south of France, at Cavalaire Bay. The sky is deep blue, there are little white yachts sailing in the bay and I can hear the gentle ripple of the sea as it laps on the shore.”
My husband said “I am at the Dam Head in Bishop Auckland and I am plodging in the water.” I think that is an old North-East word for paddling.
Lounging in the garden can also be a bit hazardous. We were watching baby sparrows leaving the nest under the eaves, such a fluttering of wings.
One landed on the fence right in front of us, we sat very still watching, when it attempted another flight – couldn’t quite make it and landed on my head.
I moved then and scared it away but not before it left its “calling card” on my shoulder.
Isn’t nature wonderful!
