IN answer to a recent letter regarding bicycles without bells (HAS, May 23), I have been a cyclist for 40 years and I totally agree that bikes should have bell.
Your correspondent should realise that if a person is normally ignorant or inconsiderate then riding a bike is not going to change them.
We are living in a day and age where selfishness and inconsideration is part of the norm for certain sections of society.
What I would like to see, and can’t understand why it doesn’t exist, is a law for bikes to have bells. Whether this would make any difference I doubt, as the law regarding lights on bikes is nearly totally ignored by the police but there would be an additional offence should an accident involving a bike and pedestrian occur.
