I WOULD like to make known my support and sympathy for Mrs Helen Goodman, former Labour Member of Parliament for Bishop Auckland. Her father has just recently passed away but she was not allowed to see him because of the rules surrounding the coronavirus pandemic (Echo, May 25).

However, in contrast, it seems that Dominic Cummings, a senior adviser to the Prime Minister, has been able to flout these rules by driving with his wife and son from London to Durham City. It is reported that he did so to seek help from his relatives in combating the suspected infection of a member of his family with the coronavirus.

When initially questioned about this at a press conference, Mr Johnson, the Prime Minister, stated that he thought Mr Cummings had acted responsibly, legally and with integrity.

I wonder what our newly elected local Conservative Members of Parliament have got to say about this matter.

Andrew Dowson, Bishop Auckland.
