IN the Second World War, children were evacuated from London to safer locations during the Blitz. This was the right thing to do. However for Dominic Cummings to take his child from London to County Durham during lockdown was definitely the wrong thing to do.

Children evacuated from London during the Blitz would not have been carrying Hitler’s bombs with them, but Dominic Cummings’ child could have been carrying Covid-19, potentially bringing more death to County Durham. What Mr Cummings has done therefore, is very serious.

He has taken the law into his own hands, and has disregarded the welfare of others with his actions. He may have thought that he was doing this in a way that could not bring harm to others, but he could so easily have been proved wrong.

As senior adviser to the government, he is a public figure, therefore it is essential that he loses his position in order to set an example. What is particularly concerning is that a man who has displayed this despicable disregard for others and for the rules when they didn’t suit him, continues to be the senior government adviser.

Boris Johnson has displayed failure of leadership by condoning the actions of Dominic Cummings.
