THIS week sees the start of the battle to force three Thai banks sell the land to the South Tees Development Corporation (STDC).

Meetings of such importance require cool heads not hot heads.

Boro Chairman Steve Gibson reportedly lost his temper at the last meeting and tried to throw papers at representatives from Thai banks which hold the land (Echo, Feb 8).

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen didn’t fare much better by being both rude and ‘’offensive,’’ recently claiming ‘’if that hurts their feelings, then so be it’’.

The STDC have been trying for years to obtain this large stretch of former steelworks land for redevelopment.

After these outbursts surely the odds on a successful outcome surely lengthened.

Mr Houchen claims he is passionate about developing this site.

It’s not passion, it’s panic. The Mayor and his team have put all their eggs in one basket.

I can never understand the obsession spending years fighting tooth and nail for such an ugly site, filled with multiple obstacles.

A derelict wasteland with no sign of actual ownership.

There must be fresher locations in the Tees Valley to attract new businesses.

But once Mayor Houchen gets the bit between his teeth he refuses to change direction.
