MANY Teesside people would have been relieved to read (Echo, Feb 4) of the “Pledge to put police on beat”.
The extra 120 bobbies to go back on the beat should go some of the way to fill the ever decreasing thin blue line.
Cleveland Police has been going through a very difficult period and this announcement should lift morale.
One hopes that this signals the end of the Tory government’s austerity policy and we can see the “levelling out” sound bite being put into practice on the transport and jobs front, for us up north.
If the government delivers on those two fronts the thin blue political wall may take some knocking down.
George Dunning, Ormesby.
