AFTER watching the FA Cup match on TV today between Liverpool and Shrewsbury, I was so pleased to see the minnows get a result against the current top team in the country and a chance to make a lot of money in the replay – win or loose.
But most of all, it’s about the excitement for the home fans – a match that will live on in their memories. This is what makes the FA Cup so special for the smaller teams, a chance of glory and to give a boost to their finances.
I still remember non league Tow Law in the Sixties hammering Mansfield Town 5-1 in the FA Cup and then holding today’s heroes Shrewsbury to a draw in the next round.
Great memories of great times.
