MY apologies regarding the closure of mines (HAS, Jan 27). I meant the deep mines ie South Shields, Sunderland, Easington, not opencast and drift.
There are quite a few smaller mines operating, as Neil Cook rightly says and good luck to them.
Coal has always been the most efficient source of power and as long as it’s mined without the dangers of the past and the emissions are dealt with – great. It’s far better than fracking.
