WHITEHALL has already turned the A1 as far as Scotch Corner into largely a three lane motorway.
Parts of the A1 between Darlington and Durham are already three lane.
As the Staindrop Road housing development moves forward, the road builders will encounter several bridges over the A1 and also a stretch of flyover above Staindrop Road.
This will be deeply unpleasant and disruptive for those living beneath the flyover, if houses are built there.
As these bridges are altered, and the flyover expanded – it would be absurd to fail to put in access points.
Darlington people should be able to access the A1 at Merrybent.
Darlington people should be able to access the A1 also again, just north of the A167 A1 junction when another bridge on an unclassified road crosses the A1 inside Darlington’s local authority area.
Darlington people should be able to access the A1 on Staindrop Road.
The A1 was originally built as Darlington’s by pass. Can we use the road please?
Nigel Boddy, Darlington.
