SO we now see in another year and indeed a whole new decade. But the old problems in this country are still there.

After over nine years of Tory-led government, we live in a country where, according to Age UK, the number of over-60s admitted to hospital with malnutrition has more than trebled in the UK over the last decade.

Age UK have stated that those diagnosed with the condition at hospital jumped from 1,405 in 2007-2008 to 4,988 in 2017-2018.

It might seem hard to think of a more damning way of judging the utter failure of our governments since 2010 to treat the people of our country decently. But of course these appalling statistics are hardly isolated.

With 280,000 British people going through Christmas without a home, according to Shelter, while foodbank use has increased 1,000 per cent since 2010, there are many other indicators of just how callous our governments have been in that period.

It is therefore all the more important that the Johnson government is scrutinised very carefully and any broken promises and lies called out by our mainstream media.

Anything less would be very damaging for our country.
