AT last there is progress on the long-awaited development on the Northallerton prison site, although it is doubtful any premises will be up and running before autumn 2020, which will be six years since the prison closed.

There is no such prospect of completion of the relief road at the North Northallerton development by Spring 2020, however.

This development is now running three years behind schedule. Most of the 1,200 houses are now built or nearing completion, many are occupied but residents have no direct access to Northallerton via the promised link road as the bridge linking Darlington Road and Stokesley Road isn’t even started on!

There is a deathly silence from Hambleton District Council when asked when the link road will be opened (if at all?).

Brompton’s long suffering residents now just give a wry smile and continue to put up with the delays and inconvenience, sick of the whole mismanaged scheme.

Cllr Mark Robson, leader of the council, keeps telling us what a fantastic council he leads – who is he kidding? Developments and traffic in Northallerton are shambolic and most residents are simply fed up with it.
