AS I have elderly relatives living in Darlington, I decided to ask their Conservative candidate Peter Gibson what his thoughts were about pensioners having to pay the £154.50 TV licence from next April.
He informs me the removal of the free TV licence has nothing to do with the Conservative Party, therefore I should address my concerns directly to the BBC.
I find that answer unacceptable. The removal of the free TV licence has everything to do with the Conservative Party as it was they who promised to retain it.
The Conservatives gained a lot of votes based on that promise and are now expecting the old folk to place their trust in them.
Make no mistake: £154.50 a year is a lot of money for the elderly to fork out. £3 a week in fact.
