LOCAL Labour candidates, canvassers and now Tony Blair (Echo, Nov 29) are employing a new, shrewd tactic to win the General Election.

It is aimed at voters who might fear Jeremy Corbyn becoming Prime Minister. They simply ask people to vote for their local Labour candidate because nationally “Corbyn won’t win”.

By extension, though, if people voted for their local Labour candidate then all the local candidates across the country would be elected, nationally the Labour Party would win and Mr Corbyn would become PM.

It’s actually rather clever but if only some candidates across the country are elected because of it, it could result in another hung parliament. Irrespective of political persuasion, as demonstrated by the recent inability of the House of Commons to get almost anything done, there needs to be a clear winner of the election otherwise the country will be stuck with another government unable to get anything done.
