LET me say I have never ever voted Labour. However in today’s HAS (Nov 19) both Tom Ball and Alan Wilkinson comment on the fact that when Labour left office, there was a note saying there was no money left.

Neither comment on why there was no money left. It was because billions of pounds had been used to prop up the banks after their foolish lending schemes of mortgages to those who could never repay their loans. Schemes all to boost top bankers’ bonuses to enormous heights.

If the banks had been allowed to sink into bankruptcy the consequences would have been catastrophic and chaotic with everyone suffering loss of savings, a fate even worse than the austerity we have suffered.
