FURTHER to the reports headlined (Echo, Nov 12) “Chinese firm steps in to save 4,000 jobs at British Steel” and “Funding plan lifeline to Sirius mine investors”, many will be hopeful that the Chinese company Jingye will have a successful takeover of British Steel, securing hundreds of jobs here in Redcar & Cleveland and thousands of jobs in Scunthorpe.

Whilst Jingye are relatively small in China employing 23,000 people, they seem the best company available to take over the British Steel plants.

Jingye appear to want to develop and grow more specialised steel, hence these British Steel plants can provide such a niche part of the steel market for Jingye.

Maybe with Jingye also involved in chemicals, there could be a path to get involved with our local polyhalite mining company Sirius Minerals. That would reassure everyone that Jingye were here for the long term.
