THE reopening of the A67 between High Coniscliffe and Piercebridge has been long overdue.

Darlington Borough Council claim to have investigated the cause of successive landslips along this stretch of highway but, as a resident of High Coniscliffe, it is my opinion that the very high volume of traffic from a heavy haulage contractor operating low loaders carrying excavators, dump trucks and tractors with gross vehicle weights in excess of 42 tonnes, may simply be too much for the road to bear.

Surely a weight restriction could be applied in order to prevent further degradation taking place.
