THE chaotic situation surrounding Brexit gives me the impression that the pantomime season has started.

More than three years after the referendum, we are now spending only a few days discussing the Withdrawal Agreement, which will decide the future prosperity of the country for possibly the next five years. Yet MPs always have at least two days to discuss the annual Budget which is considerably less important!

Boris Johnson reduced the time to debate the deal by suspending Parliament for the Queen’s speech, which was a complete charade as there will not be time to implement the proposals before a general election. It was nothing more than a Tory Election manifesto.

The UK will not be requesting an extension in order to give MPs the appropriate time to consider the agreement because of Boris’s determination that we leave the EU at the end of the month.

It also appears that there will not be a second referendum so we will not be able to compare what was promised and what is now being offered.

As a 65 year old very dependent on the NHS, I will be interesting to see if it will get Boris’s promised £350m extra a week. If so, I suspect there might be a codicil with the addition of “in the next (40) years”.
