JUST to add to the Brexit confusion a House of Commons briefing paper 07212 (easily found via Google) states: “The referendum does not contain any requirement to implement the result of the referendum.”
It then adds: “The UK does not have constitutional provisions which would require the results of a referendum to be implemented.”
What a pity this was not widely known before the referendum took place.
