IN response to the letter from Geoff Gardener headed “On the box” (HAS, Sept 2). I would like to thank him for his letter about ITV News Tyne Tees and his question about why we have two presenters.

A lot of the work our presenters do is off screen before our programmes go on air.

They bring in stories, carry out research, set up filming, film their own reports and help train our newer journalists.

They have extremely busy jobs even before they come into the studio – and they do present on a number of programmes per day.

We like to have both presenters in the studio for our 6pm programme to allow us to be slightly more informal towards the end of the half hour, but by no means is this all that they do during their long working day.
