I READ with close interest John Elliott’s article “Brexit can and will work” (Echo, Sept 9).
I have much respect for Mr Elliott, a well-known local entrepreneur who has run Ebac, a successful manufacturer for nearly 50 years.
However, he has used too many generalisations in his advocating leaving the EU. He stated: “We have an industrial strategy that has not worked and never will”. Where is the evidence for that sweeping statement?
Also, he said: “We need better people to run the country, what a simplistic statement!”
If John Elliott or anyone would tell me four or five tangible benefits that will result from our country leaving the EU, I would give the Brexit cause more thought. Until then I am unconvinced of the wisdom of it.
