AS members of campaigning organisation ONE, we urge our Richmond MP Rishi Sunak to maintain Britain’s leading role in the fight against extreme poverty as he goes about the spending review.

While Mr Sunak, the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, takes on the task of assessing how much each part of government spends, we’d like him to know that the support we give to others around the world is an issue that matters locally, as well as globally.

As his constituents, we are proud that the UK leads the fight against killer diseases like Ebola, helps children get quality education and provides shelter for those fleeing war.

It’s essential that when looking at which government department is spending aid, that Mr Sunak ensures that every penny is poverty focused, transparent and effective at the job it’s intended for.

So please, Rishi, make sure you keep one of the things that makes Britain great – our contribution to fighting extreme poverty.
