The national language, banners and garb may be different but the demagoguery, the incitement and the lies haven’t changed.
The lessons of history are obviously lost on Trump and his followers because ironically there must have been quite a number of those present in North Carolina who would have had either fathers or grandfathers who fought to destroy this ideology in Europe during the Second World War.
They should be shown Leni Riefenstahl’s film Triumph of the Will about the 1934 Nazi party rally in Nuremberg – possibly they might recognise a mirror image of themselves.
