EACH time I visit our beautifully refurbished theatre, I am bemused by the picture of a ‘hippopotamus’ as part of the design.

I’m surprised that the designer didn’t realise that the ‘hippo’ part of the name of the theatre refers to a horse (Greek – hippos) and the ‘drome’ to the place of performance as in a circus or a racecourse.

Somehow I can’t imagine a group of hippopotami dancing on the stage.

A little more research perhaps?
