GIUSEPPE BIGNARDI is wrong in his conclusion that a further referendum on leaving the EU should be held with Theresa May’s deal or remaining being the only options on the ballot paper (HAS, June 25).

I would suggest as Remain has already lost, democratically the first time, the options should be only Theresa May’s deal or no deal. As the UK does not want to cause conflict in Northern Ireland perhaps Giuseppe should be addressing his concern to the EU.

Wait a minute though, the EU does not want to cause trouble there either.

Am I missing something – it can only be the EU does not like one of its members breaking away despite ample compensation being awarded?

It is essential the UK retains the £39bn until a deal favourable to the UK is decided upon. The deal, however, as voted for in 2016 must be a clean break.
