IT was very sad to hear about and read the article headlined “Tributes to former mayor and charity champion” (Echo, Jun 18).
Mike Findley will be sadly missed by many throughout the area.
I recall Mike as an excellent local councillor on Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council and a great charity worker, especially for Motor Neurone Disease.
Mike’s year as the civic mayor in 2008 was a good year for his chosen charities, collecting over £12,000.
Mike, a former postman and trade union fan, was a big Fulham supporter but he loved his adopted football clubs of Middlesbrough and Marske United.
Our thoughts go out to Mike’s family, especially his very supportive wife, Judith.
George Dunning, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council leader, 2007-2015
