I READ that Darlington students are going to go on strike to urge the Government to do more about climate change (Echo, May 21), yet this is the generation that relies most on the very things they are railing against.

They have lost the art of conversation and instead communicate electronically.

Their coffee doesn't come in a cup and saucer but a plastic lined beaker and their food is not consumed around the family table but on the hoof out of a plastic container which is then usually discarded.

Their continual demand for the latest technology has led to the deforestation of jungles in the search for rare and obscure metals. The seasonal rains then cause floods which are immediately blamed on global warming.

I am not a total non-believer in global warming but striking students need to take a long hard look at their own habits before laying down the law to others.
