AS an ex-submariner, I fully understand the pressures on the skippers and crew of all naval ships and submarines.

I will never understand how the decorated and well respected captain of HMS Queen Elizabeth, 50-year-old Commodore Nick Cook-Priest, has been dismissed from his post for using a Ford Galaxy assigned to him. He used to car to leave the ship and go home on several occasions and this has been deemed as misappropriation of use.

How petty can the pen pushers be, sat on their backsides in their comfy leather-bound chairs in their centrally heated offices? Rules are rules and discipline must be utmost at all times but this is taking things to a new level of stupidity.

If any of them have been to sea they should remember what it was like. It is a disgrace to hand out such harsh punishment to a well respected Royal Navy senior officer.
