YOUR front page (Echo, Apr 10) highlights the growing problem, and increasing cost, of fly-tipping.

I am fortunate to live close to a recycling centre in Spennymoor, where the opening hours are fairly limited: 9am-6pm summer, and 9am-3.30pm in winter. Some recycling centres in the county are not even open every day.

We are often told of the cost of cleaning up rubbish left by the roadside and open spaces. Is it more than the wage bill of opening the recycling centres for just an extra couple of hours?

I would welcome comments from a county council representative.
