HAVING read Mr Bartle’s comments ‘Neglected Barney’ (HAS, Mar 26), I wholeheartedly agree with him and I don’t even live in Barnard Castle.
My husband and I spend many hours walking around Barney in the fields, woods, abbey etc and love the Buttermarket – the jewel in the crown of the high street. But, alas Mr Bartle, Durham County Council only spend their millions where foreign students are based and bring tourism in.
I agree Barney should be given more recognition as to its local beauty and culture, e.g. castle, abbey and museum but who’s listening?!
