CRAIG MARTIN suggests that I should change the process for recruiting a new Chief Constable for Durham Constabulary ‘Call for change of process’ (Echo, Mar 25), so that a wider panel of people make the appointment.
Craig should be assured that I will, in fact, be putting together a panel of key partners to help me interview candidates and advise me about the appointment, in a few weeks’ time.
The appointment of a chief constable is one of the key responsibilities of a police and crime commissioner (PCC), of course.
Craig should be well aware of this, having stood against me in the PCC elections in 2016!
Ron Hogg, Durham Police, Crime and Victims’ Commissioner
