I HAVE attended the Darlington March for Peace for the past four years, and it has always been a great success bringing together communities united by one desire – to live side by side in peace and harmony.
Most faiths are represented and traditionally there has been an opening address by the local Jewish community, the Quakers and then a procession to Bondgate Methodist Church and a visit to a mosque. There’s even some fantastic food at the Gurdwara.
In all the time I have attended I have never seen the town’s Labour MP Jenny Chapman join this procession.
With all the intolerance and bigotry in the Labour Party in recent years, I am beginning to question whether Mrs Chapman’s absence has always been accidental or is there perhaps a deeper significance here?
It would be interesting to know why she has consistently boycotted such a well organised and well-meaning event.
Name supplied, Darlington
