THE approval of committing more than £50m to the proposed city centre HQ for Durham County Council by the Labour Party, is shameful.
The suggestion that up to, over, and potentially 6,000 well paid jobs, will be created on the Aykley Heads site is nonsense.
Already, there are over 2,500 with County Hall and the police, so why move?
I will tell you why, because the Labour Party like wasting taxpayers’ money on fanciful schemes.
When they come knocking on your door, I hope you all remember, the council that consults but doesn’t listen.
The public pay for the provision of services, not state of the art offices in inaccessible places.
County Councillor John Shuttleworth
