IT is very disappointing that Durham County Council has yet to take action and ban fox/trail hunting from its land, especially from nature reserves.
For years I have corresponded with County Hall and received numerous letters stating that all hunts are banned on council land, especially nature reserves, and they say letters are sent to hunt masters every year. Yet on February 16, I witnessed a hunt entering Wingate Nature Reserve, plus horseback supporters, plus car supporters.
There is a clear, clean orange notice stating “No Hunts”, and there is no way the sign could be missed.
Why doesn’t Durham County Council, a Labour-run council whose party brought about The Hunting Act in 2004, enforce its own ban?
