FURTHER to the headline Take-off for £40m ‘People’s Airport’ (Echo, Dec 5). Many people will congratulate the Conservative Tees Valley mayor Ben Houchen for being on the brink of completing a deal with Peel to buy Durham Tees Valley Airport.
However some will be worried that the five Labour council leaders may look to put hurdles in the way stopping the airport purchase. We hear from these local Labour politicians through the media about the intense scrutiny required for this buy.
Scrutiny is fine, but unfair criticism and unnecessary hurdles should be frowned upon as we require a vibrant local airport, and an airport under public control is surely a good thing, and in line with Labour’s philosophy.
