IN reference to WF Langley (HAS, Nov 27) I have to say, being an ex-Shildon resident myself, I fully agree with what he says.

While the Locomotion railway museum has put the town on the map, what about Timothy Hackworth’s old house, which has been quietly closed. It saddens me to see how bad it is every time I get off the train with no news on when it will be restored to its former glory.

Over the years, the council has been hopeless and has shown no clear vision for the town. It has wasted money on white elephants like the running track, town square and the biggest waste of money: still having a parish council.
