FURTHER to a report headlined earlier this week ‘vote of no confidence in party leader passed’ (Echo, Nov 19).

One can empathise with Labour’s Hartlepool Council leader Cllr Christopher Akers-Belcher following the Constituency Labour Party having a vote of no confidence in him by 39 members from a membership of about 600.

Having known Christopher while in the same position at Redcar and Cleveland Council, I found Christopher a conscientious council leader and a big promoter for Hartlepool and their people.

Notwithstanding my views on the politics front, Christopher may well find that someone is desperate to get his leader’s job.

If this is the case they may well go to any lengths to get what they want.

This can sometimes be by manipulating a small influential group, out flanking their adversary with the majority left in the wings oblivious to the situation.

Good luck to Cllr Christopher Akers-Belcher in his efforts to stay as leader of the Hartlepool Labour Group and the council.
