LABOUR leader Jeremy Corbyn made a special trip to Saltburn recently to support Labour’s prospective parliamentary candidate Lauren Dingsdale (Echo, Nov 12).

She will be contesting the Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland constituency at the next election. This seat is currently held by Conservatives’ Simon Clarke.

Thank goodness we live in a democratic society because Simon Clarke’s comments sound more like a dictator than an MP. He is of course entitled to his opinion, but in my opinion he is way off the mark in some of them.

According to Mr Clarke: “He (Jeremy Corbyn) is without a doubt the single biggest reason local people rejected Labour at last year’s general election’’.

Actually the people did not reject Labour. The party may have lost the seat in Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, but won a massive scalp themselves in Stockton South.

Nationally Jeremy Corbyn gained more seats for Labour forcing the Conservatives into a minority government. They only held on to power by the skin of their teeth after gifting the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) a goody bag worth £1bn.

I believe Labour’s candidate Lauren Dingsdale will move this area forward. We are sick and tired of being hoodwinked by Tory MPs who make extravagant promises unlikely ever to be fulfilled.
