HARRY MEAD highlighted the problems caused by people like Tony Blair who want to put their stamp on what happens next to Brexit (Echo, Oct 17).

That edition also featured a letter from that eternal pessimist and profit of doom, Stephen Warren.

Brexit is not just “something for tomorrow”. It is for our long term future and unless we grab this opportunity with both hands, we will regret it.

For two years people like Blair, Warren and others have been poisoning the press and airwaves with their negative thoughts.

In spite of 17.4m people voting leave, 84 per cent of voters voting for political parties supporting Brexit in their 2017 election manifesto and 498 MPs voting for Brexit with only 114 against, the minority still think that they can stop Brexit.

I sincerely hope that is not the case.

When we vote we are not asked to defend our vote or explain why we chose the option selected. This is to ensure that whoever you are, whatever high status you hold, however rich you are or how knowledgeable you are, your vote counts no more than the lowest, poorest or ignorant. And that is how it should be.

We voted for Brexit. No conditional exit. No retention of the single market or the customs union. No control by the EU and full control of our laws and borders. The EU specified the terms of leaving the EU which entails giving up the “four freedoms” and that is what we must do.

Brexit means leaving and starting again – hopefully with a trade deal, but, if not, we must still leave.

Those who support Brexit must stand strong and carry the UK over the line on March 29.
