FURTHER to the letter from Steve Kay, Redcar & Cleveland councillor (Echo, Oct 10) headed “A major coup”.
Steve is right, it is great that Redcar will be involved in cycling’s Tour de Yorkshire come 2020.
On his political infighting as to who takes the credit at Labour cabinet level he’s correct again. What one finds nowadays is that the Labour-led minority council rush to promote the good news stories, but appear to hide when controversial issues need to be fronted.
On Steve’s previous Labour administrations not being Yorkshire friendly, Steve would have to go back a long way (pre-2003) to really justify that political point. There always has been a minority who would want to break links with Yorkshire, but the majority always wanted to be associated with the Yorkshire gold standard heritage brand and politically be linked with the sub region now referred to as the Tees Valley and regionally with all the other twelve North-East councils.
George Dunning, Ormesby
