I WAS interested by the article about guns brought back from Germany after the First World War. (Echo Memories, Sept 22).
In the Dales Centre at Stanhope, there is a painting on the walls, showing the men of the village dragging the cannon along the road to the river.
It really needs a plaque on the wall explaining the story, as even the local ladies did not know the story behind it.
