SINCE my letter about how I again been badly bitten by a dog while delivering a leaflet through a letterbox (HAS, Sept 18), I have received a helpful letter from my MP, Jenny Chapman.
She says that, according to the Government’s website, “it's against the law to let a dog be dangerously out of control anywhere, such as in a public place, in a private place (e.g. a neighbour's house or garden), or in the owner's home”.
The website says that a “dog is considered dangerously out of control if it injures someone or makes someone worried that it might injure them".
When I reported my incident, a police officer advised me that there was nothing that could be done because the dog was inside a house.
I have drawn Ms Chapman’s information to the attention of Durham police suggesting that they may like to consider taking further action.
