IT could well be my eyesight, or the couple of pints I had on Saturday night, but not for the first time I am certain I witnessed another blatant offside goal scored by Liverpool on Match of the Day.

Nothing against Liverpool, but I thought that there were a few more offside goals scored by the Reds and other clubs last season, Harry Kane hit a few, which the match officials missed and the experts in the Match of the Day studio did not bother to look at or review.

Last Saturday during the Tottenham Hotspur versus Liverpool Premier League fixture there was a melee in the Tottenham Hotspur goalmouth leading up to the second Liverpool goal scored by Firmino.

During that melee Firmino appeared to step off the field of play by walking over the goal-line into the goal.

Then he walked forward, stood on the goal-line, or only a couple of feet from it, and hit the ball into the net.

Unless the rules have been changed he has got to have been in an offside position because you cannot stand in a more offside position than on the goal-line or a few feet from it, and my eyesight was telling me that there was only one player, the Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper, in front of, or level with him.

Perhaps there is a referee who reads these pages who might be able to watch a replay of Firmino’s goal and give his verdict, because you see dozens of incidents like that in a season which for some reason Alan Shearer and company don’t look at again.
