I UNDERSTAND that a lady was nearly knocked down near the Kingfisher pedestrian crossing, Spennymoor, on Saturday.
I have pointed out the road dangers that exist at both this point and the road which bisects Durham Road. This crossing, which is below the Iceland store, is too close to the Durham Road junction.
Pedestrians try to look in three directions at once and both myself and Durham County Council consider that it is dangerous.
I understand that since these roads were first built, there are more cars using them and these roads can be very busy during shopping hours.
Durham County Council road safety officers are looking into this road safety problem, which will be linked to the Refurbishment of the Festival Walk shopping area.
Can I ask them to expedite their plans and incorporate the road safety issues into them?
Ben Ord, Spennymoor
