FOR the second time I was recently badly bitten by a dog whilst delivering a leaflet through a letterbox, advertising our local allotment open day.

A police officer advised me that there was nothing that could be done because the dog was inside a house.

Unfortunately it is commonplace for dogs to attack letter boxes and I fully sympathise with Royal Mail staff who have to contend with this every day.

I think that the law should be changed to require dog owners to take measures to prevent their dog(s) from injuring people delivering mail/information through their letter box, with a legal liability to pay compensation or a fine when they fail to do so.

I would like to add that I am very thankful for the prompt and efficient treatment I was given at the urgent care centre at the Memorial Hospital.
